VILNIUS – As Vilnius gears up for a major transformation of its railway and bus station area, the local municipality and Lietuvos Gelezinkeliai (Lithuanian Railways), the country's state-owned railway company, have called an international architectural tender for the implementation of the so-called Vilnius Connect project.

Its participants will be expected to produce a railway station project, propose a modern idea for public transport infrastructure and an urban center, as well as shape an attractive square in the station area, the municipality said.

Mantas Bartuska, CEO at LG, says the goal is to create spaces matching the best railway station examples in Western Europe.

Tender participants are expected to have similar experience in implementing similar projects and designing public buildings. Applications are accepted by the end of May and the winner will be announced in June.
