VILNIUS - Vilnius Regional Court is expected to issue on Tuesday its ruling in a case in which three actors and a director were fined for disturbing a religious service at a church in the southeastern district of Salcininkai.

A lower instance court last October fined the three actors – Vitalijus Cololo, Mindaugas Papinigis and Ainis Storpirstis – 1,000 euros each and imposed a fine of 2,000 euros on Emilis Velyvis, the director.

The ruling was appealed both by prosecutors and the defendants.

Prosecutors seek higher fines, and the actors and the director want to be acquitted of all charges.

The criminal investigation was opened after the three actors dressed in religious clothing walked into the church in Turgeliai, a small town in the Salcininkai district, during the Mass of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary on August 15, 2018 to advertise their Zero Live Show.

The actors, who spoke Polish, told those gathered for the service about the upcoming show.

The church is frequented by ethnic Poles.
