VILNIUS - The Faculty of Philology at Vilnius University and the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Latvia have awarded their first joint master's degree.

The diploma was presented to Baltic linguistics graduate Dovile Gavelyte, who defended her master's thesis on manipulative and causative constructions in the Lithuanian, Latvian, Livonian and Estonian languages.

The joint Baltic studies degree programme was launched this year, combining Vilnius University's Baltic linguistics master's programme and the University of Latvia's master's programme in Latvian language, literature and culture.

Students in the programme spend their first year at their home university and their third semester in the partner country, where they deepen their knowledge of Baltic studies and prepare their master's thesis. Applicants are required to have at least a B1 level of proficiency in both Lithuanian and Latvian.
