VILNIUS – Lietuvos Oro Uostai (Lithuanian Airports, LOU), the airport operator in Lithuania, will buy 12 hybrid or electric buses by 2026 to replace all diesel buses currently used by ground services at Vilnius Airport.

The total value of the order will be clear after the tender that is set to be announced in the fall. LOU said.

Its acting CEO Aurimas Stikliunas says negotiations with ground handling companies, which are directly hired by airlines, have been taking place for several years but have not been successful, therefore, LOU is taking matters into its own hands.

"It is likely that all buses at Vilnius Airport will be brand new and comfortable by 2025-2026," he said.

Moreover, LOU will soon start the expansion of the charging stations within Vilnius Airport's internal areas.
