Viciunai to start constructing Hilton Hotel in Vilnius next spring

VILNIUS – Viciunu Grupe (Viciunai Group), a company owned by Kaunas Mayor Visvaldas Matijosaitis, will open the construction of DoubleTree by Hilton hotel in the Lithuanian capital next spring, a year behind the original schedule.

The hotel should be opened in 2020.

"We had to revise our work calendar but the key issues have been settled and DoubleTree by Hilton should open doors in Vilnius in 2020," Sarunas Matijosaitis, board chairman at Viciunu Grupe, said in a press release.

In his words, the main construction work will be started in spring of 2018. The initial plan was to start the construction this year and finish it in 2019. The company secured a construction permit on Tuesday.

Viciunu Grupe intends to invest more than 30 million euros in the 174-room hotel.

This will be the second Hilton hotel in the Lithuanian capital – a Hilton Garden Inn is already under construction by Eika real estate developer, in addition to two more international hotel chains building facilities near-by, namely, Ibis and Courtyard by Marriott.
