Ventspils yacht port: sustainable development

From 18 to 26 January 2020 an exhibition was held in Dusseldorf “Boat Show Düsseldorf” which is one of the major events in the world in this field. There was everything from kayaks to super-yachts present, as well as guests could find out information about yacht ports (marines) and services provided by yachtsmen.

New Yacht Marina Ltd., the owner and operator of VentspilsYacht Port, once again, participated in the Boat Show Düsseldorf on the common stage of the programme “East Baltic Coast”where the new possibilities of the Ventspils port for the 2020 season were presented.

During 2019, thanks to the investment from shareholders of New Yacht Marina Ltd. - Baltic Marine Holding Company Ltd., the majority owner of which is businessman Igor Sechelev - and the support of the ESTLAT 55 program “Improved Infrastructure of Yacht ports and the Development of Port Networks of Latvia and Estonia,” within the project “Reconstruction of Ventspils Yacht Port and Landscaping” the reconstruction of a 110 long pier was completed and 3 new floating berths were installed, which allowed to increase the number of parking spaces for yachts to 50. A capital repair was performed for the winter storage area of yachts (840 sqm.).

In addition, a self-propelled crane for lifting yachts from water,produced by Roodberg (Netherlands) with a lifting capacity of up to 35 tons was purchased and put into operation. The crane is the first of such kind in Latvia.

In 2019, a steady increase in the number of yachts visiting Ventspils Yacht Port continued. So, in the season of 2019, the port welcomed and greeted 502 yachts, which is 8% more than in 2018, and 36% more than in 2015, which was the first season ofoperation of the port. On average, each yacht spent 2 days in the port. In 2019, 1 435 guests arrived through the New Yacht Marina in the city of Ventspils, most of whom were sailors from Germany, Finland and Sweden.

New Yacht Marina Ltd. took part in the cultural life of Ventspilstoo: on August 3, 2019, as part of the events dedicated to the City Day, a presentation of new berths, equipment and services of the Ventspils Yacht Port took place. The event was attended by over 300 citizens and guests who got acquainted with the port and its new features, and listened to a concert on water performed by the leading artists of the Riga Opera (Inga Š─╝ubovska, NaurisPuntulis) and the Latvian Symphony Orchestra (RaimondsOzols).

The owner of the Ventspils Yacht Port, entrepreneur Igor Sechelev comments:

«In 2020 Baltic Marine Holding Company Ltd. plans to continue investing in the development of Ventspils Yacht Ports through its subsidiary New Yacht Marina Ltd. Continuation of the ESTLAT 55 program realization is also planned in order to complete reconstruction of the port’s client service premises and development of the territory. It is planned that the range of services of the yacht port will broaden with middle-class apartments which will be available for rent to the guests of the port and of the city.

In addition, on June 28, 2020, the Gulf of Riga Regatta (GORR) will start from the berths of the Ventspils Yacht Port with participation of more than 30 yachts from various countries, in particular from Sweden, Lithuania and Latvia.”

Aiming to further enhancement of operations of the VentspilsYacht Port and popularization of the city of Ventspils as aninternational tourist destination, in 2020 New Yacht Marina Ltd.will also participate in Helsinki International Boat Show 2020 (02/07/2020 - 02/16/2020) and Stockholm International Boat Show (06/03/2020 - 03/15/2020).
