RIGA - The current and future cooperation between Latvia and Germany will open up new opportunities for both countries' companies to become stronger and more competitive in both Europe and on global markets, President Raimonds Vejonis said in opening a business forum in Hamburg today.

On the last day of his state visit to Germany, Vejonis opened a business forum organized by the Investment and Development Agency of Latvia and Hamburg Chamber of Commerce to enhance economic cooperation between the two countries.

Addressing representatives from Latvian and German companies, Vejonis said that Germany was the second largest trade partner of Latvia, and that both countries were united by successful long-lasting cooperation in transport.

"At a time of rapid technological development, almost every area of our lives is associated with digital solutions, development of new technologies, innovation, science and research. Latvia has the necessary infrastructure and smart and innovative scientists and businessmen for the development of innovative ideas and products. We have outstanding digital infrastructure and digital solutions that offer great opportunities for cross-sector cooperation," stressed Vejonis.

During the Latvia-Germany business forum, Latvian Information and Communication Technology Association and Hamburg digital cluster Hamburg@work signed a cooperation memorandum with the aim of developing closer cooperation in the development of joint ICT projects, information and new technology exchange, and deeper cooperation in digitization.
