RIGA - Latvia wishes to continue exchanging high-level visits with the United Arab Emirates to further enhance political and economic cooperation between both countries, President Raimonds Vejonis said during a meeting with the UAE Federal National Council Speaker Amal Al Qubaisi today.
The Federal National Council's speaker emphasized the importance of Vejonis' visit to the UAE, the first visit to the country by the president of Latvia, as the President's Press Office told BNS.
Vejonis said he was pleased to have signed two bilateral cooperation agreements during his visit: a memorandum of understanding on mutual recognition of Latvian and UAE drivers' licenses, and a memorandum of understanding in cooperation in agriculture. He also said he expected closer cooperation between both countries' parliaments, including mutual visits by both countries' parliamentary delegations. Vejonis also invited the UAE Federal National Council speaker to visit Latvia.
"The memorandum of understanding and cooperation that Saeima chairperson signed during her visit to the UAE in 2016 is an important precondition for closer cooperation between the parliaments of the UAE and Latvia," said Vejonis.
The two officials also discussed economic cooperation between Latvia and the UAE.
As reported, Vejonis, accompanied by several ministers, is visiting the UAE February 25 to 28.
