RIGA – The State Security Service (VDD) has asked for criminal prosecution against a Latvian citizen for illegal participation in the armed conflict in eastern Europe.
VDD said in its statement to the press that a criminal procedure has been launched against one person on August 2, 2016, in suspicion of illegal participation in the armed conflict in eastern Ukraine.
Information obtained during investigation suggests that the person went to the war zone in eastern Ukraine in September 2014, joining an illegal armed group and took active par tin attacks on the Ukrainian Armed Forces, aiming against territorial integrity of Ukraine. VDD has handed the criminal procedure to the prosecutor’s office, asking to launch criminal prosecution.
