Unemployment level in Latvia drops to 7.4% in May

RIGA - The registered unemployment level in Latvia decreased 0.4 percentage points to 7.4 percent in May, according to the State Employment Agency's data.

At the beginning of May, 71,705 people were registered with the agency as unemployed, while at the end of May there were 68,439 unemployed persons in Latvia.

The lowest unemployment level in May was recorded in Riga Region - 4.7 percent, and the highest in Latgale province - 17.1 percent. The unemployment rate for Kurzeme was 8.4 percent at the end of last month, in Vidzeme - 8 percent, and in Zemgale - 7 percent.

The registered unemployment level in Riga was 4.4 percent in May, and Valmiera also had 4.4 percent. Unemployment level for Jelgava was 5.2 percent, Ventspils - 5.8 percent, Jurmala - 6.2 percent, Jekabpils - 9.2 percent, Liepaja - 9.8 percent, Daugavpils - 10.7 percent, and Rezekne - 14.1 percent.

At the end of May 2016, Latvia's registered unemployment level was 8.4 percent.
