TALLINN - The Congress of Ukrainians in Estonia invites people to gather at Freedom Square in Tallinn on Saturday afternoon to commemorate the victims of the Holodomor, also known as the Great Ukrainian Famine.
Ukrainians around the world commemorate the victims of the Holodomor on the fourth Saturday of November, and the Congress of Ukrainians in Estonia organizes annual memorial events to honor the victims of this genocide of the Ukrainian people.
The Congress of Ukrainians in Estonia invites people to come with candles to Freedom Square at 3 p.m. on Saturday and join the "Light a Candle" action, part of the Ukrainian World Congress' campaign "We Remember, Unite and Shall Overcome."
The Holodomor is not the only attempt to annihilate the Ukrainian nation. The current Russian aggression and the Holodomor are links in the same chain, and the international community is increasingly aware of this. Consequently, more countries are recognizing the Holodomor as a genocide -- currently, there are 28 such countries. Estonia was the first to adopt a corresponding resolution in 1993, for which the Ukrainian World Congress awarded the Riigikogu with the St. Volodymyr the Great Medal this year.
