RIGA - Two persons in Latvia are still infected with Covid-19 even after the disappearance of symptoms, Jurijs Perevoscikovs, director of the Infectious Disease Risk Analysis and Prevention Department at the Center for Disease Prevention and Control, told the Saeima Defense, Interior Affairs and Corruption Prevention Committee today.
Perevoscikovs explained that testing is being started this week to see if any of the people who were previously ill with Covid-19 still have the virus.
The expert explained that the current strategy requires people to be free of the virus completely in order to allow them to resume their daily activities. Symptoms have disappeared for many sick people, but they still need to be tested for the virus, Perevoscikovs explained. He stated that the virus should be tested for again at least three days after symptoms have stopped.
He added that this must be done through a family physician.
As reported, with 25 people diagnosed with Covid-19 in the past 24 hours, the total number of coronavirus patients in Latvia has risen to 111, the Center for Disease Prevention and Control (SPKC) informed on Friday.
During the past 24 hours, 528 people were tested for Covid-19 while the total number of coronavirus tests performed in Latvia has grown to 3,205.
Covid-19 infections have now been confirmed across Latvia. The highest number of coronavirus patients has been recorded in Riga.
