RIGA - The Latvian State Police in cooperation with the colleagues from the U.S. law enforcement authorities in late April detained two men, who are being investigated by the U.S. authorities for cyber crimes, the State Police said.

The two men were detained "in close cooperation" with the U.S. colleagues, said Ilze Jurevica, a spokeswoman for the Latvian State Police.

She said she was not in a position to disclose any details such as the citizenship of the detained men or the particular crimes for which they were being investigated because the investigation was being conducted by the U.S. authorities.

Jurevica also would not say whether the two men had been detained in Latvia by accident because they were on the list of internationally wanted persons or it had been a pre-planned joint operation by the law enforcement authorities of both countries.

The extradition matters are being handled by the Latvian prosecutor's office.
