RIGA - President Edgars Rinkevics today visited the site where a Maxima supermarket collapsed in Zolitude neighborhood of Riga on November 21, 2013 and laid flowers in memory of the victims, the President's Chancery informed LETA.

Prime Minister Evika Silina (New Unity) will also visit the temporary memorial in Zolitude later today to commemorate victims of the tragedy.

As reported, 54 people died and several dozen were injured as a Maxima supermarket in Riga's Zolitude neighborhood collapsed on November 21, 2013. Construction experts have concluded that the tragedy occurred as a result of wrongly calculated maximum loads for the roof of the building.

The Prosecutor's Office charged five persons with violations of construction regulations and criminal negligence. First and second tier courts have so far only convicted construction engineer Ivars Sergets in the case.
