RIGA - A total of three medics have tested positive for the Covid-19 coronavirus at Rezekne Hospital, said Jurijs Perevoscikovs, head of the Infectious Disease Risk Analysis and Prevention Department at the Center for Disease Prevention and Control, in a press conference today.
He said that these past two days, much work has been done in cooperation with Rezekne Hospital, where one surgeon was reported ill with the virus on Thursday. Contact persons were identified in this case - doctors, staff, and patients who had been in contact with the doctor on the days when there was a risk of infection. Self-quarantine requirements apply to each person the doctor was in contact with, Perevoscikovs stressed.
Additional measures were taken to find out if the infection had spread within the hospital's staff. Perevoscikovs explained that 67 samples were taken from staff members during the screening process.
After the sample results came in, it was determined earlier today that two other hospital staff have been infected with Covid-19. Thus, all the measures that are in place for the first doctor that was infected with the virus, are now in place for two additional hospital staff members. Both had been in close contact with the doctor.
