RIGA - Riga District Court has handed down prison sentences for three businessmen convicted of large-scale tax evasion, as the prosecutor's office informed LETA.
One defendant has been sentenced to one year in prison, and the other two have received ten-month and eight-month prison sentences. All three have also been banned from being involved in any commercial activity for several years.
Two businessmen were senior managers at two separate companies, who organized their companies' financial and economic operations and signed contracts subjected to value added tax (VAT), which they forged in order to evade VAT, EUR 139,870 in total.
The defendants' attorney has filed an appeal against the court ruling.
