On Jan. 21 Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda made a decision which attracted the attention of the world’s major media to the head of the Lithuanian state for a second time. The first time was when he got elected to the post of president in May, 2019. On Jan. 21, just a couple of days before the 5th Holocaust Forum in Jerusalem, Nauseda stated that he had changed his mind: he would not go to Jerusalem. Instead, he decided to commemorate the victims of the Holocaust in the former Nazi concentration camp of Auschwitz in Poland on Jan. 27.
