VILNIUS – Lithuania picked its representative for the annual Eurovision Song Contest on Saturday and will be represented by The Roop and their song "On Fire".
The winner of the national selection was announced during the competition final at the Zalgiris Arena in Lithuania's second-largest city of Kaunas on Saturday, broadcast by the public broadcaster LRT.
The winner was picked by a jury and a public vote, with The Roop leading in both votes.
Aiste Pilvelyte, Ruta Loop, KaYra, Monika Marija, Monique, MEANDI, The Roop and The Backs also vied for the right to represent Lithuania during the national selection final.
The 2020 Eurovision Song Contest will take place in Rotterdam and the Lithuanian representative will perform in the first semi-final on May 12. The second semi-final will take place on May 14, followed by the final two days later.
Last year, Lithuania was represented by Jurijus Veklenko but he failed to get into the final.
Lithuania made its debut at the European Song Contest in 1994.
