The open architectural competition for architectural solutions for five residential buildings in the "Tērbatas dārzs" quarter has ended. The competition was launched in June this year and took place in two rounds. The second round was won by two Latvian architectural practices - SIA “Mark Arhitekti” and SIA “PBR”.

The second round of the competition for the architectural design of the building facades was won by two architectural firms from Latvia. SIA “Mark Arhitekti” from Latvia won for three buildings with a total planned construction volume of 33 250 m². These buildings will be constructed at the addresses of the land plots Krišjāņa Barona iela 75, Krišjāņa Barona iela 75A and Tērbatas iela 78B. The proposal by SIA "PBR" for two buildings, with a total planned construction volume of 21,360 m², to be built on the land plots at Krišjāņa Barona iela 75B and Tērbatas iela 78C, was deemed the best.

"We are very pleased with the high quality of the work that won the competition for the next phase of development of the “Tērbatas dārzs” site for five buildings. We are looking forward to implementing these ideas and developing the "Tērbatas dārzs" area into a modern residential quarter where sustainable solutions and high-quality architecture are combined with a unique green courtyard concept and urban gardening opportunities," says Ülo Adamson, co-founder and CEO of “Estera Development”.

The first round of the competition attracted 26 applications from several countries, including Latvia, Estonia, Switzerland, Germany, the United Kingdom and Poland. The jury selected six of the most suitable applicants to participate in the second round of the “Tērbatas dārzs” competition.

The aim of the design competition was to find architecturally high-quality solutions for the facades of residential and mixed-use buildings in the new urban quarter "Tērbatas dārzs". One of the competition criteria was that the five new buildings in "Tērbatas dārzs" should be integrated into the urban environment and landscape of the historic centre of Riga, respecting the scale of the surrounding buildings, the principles of composition and the regularities of the urban structure of the particular site.

"Tērbatas dārzs" is a new and modern city quarter that “Estera Development” is developing between Tērbatas Street and Krišjāņa Barona Street - on the territory of the former Sports Palace hockey hall. With a planned investment of more than EUR 120 million, 800 apartments and extensive commercial space will be developed in the area, creating an attractive environment for residents and businesses. Reservations have already started for the first building, which is scheduled for construction in 2025. More information: https://terbatas.estera.lv/
