RIGA - Telephone scammers have started using robocalls also in the Latvian language, Swedbank representatives told LETA.
Up until recently, bank customers mostly received such calls only in Russian, with scammers unable to answer questions in Latvian, which allowed a large number of customers to realize that the callers were fraudsters and avoid their attempts to obtain customers' online banking access data.
"Unfortunately, it was to be expected that Russian would not be the only language used by scammers to defraud customers. As technology advances, so do scammers' tools to pretend to be bank employees and fraudulently obtain customer data," said Vadims Frolovs, head of Swedbank Customer Service, advising bank customers to be vigilant against scams, regardless of what language scammers speak.
