Tallinn ready to offer additional beds to homeless as temperatures set to drop to -29

TALLINN - The Tallinn city authorities are ready to prepare additional beds in the capital city's homeless shelters as the weather service forecasts temperatures to drop as low as minus 29 degrees Celsius in coming nights.

"There are enough spaces in Tallinn's homeless shelters. True, the occupancy rate in some regions is quite high, but we can create additional places in these units, if necessary. We will always find a way to help those in need -- we can bring additional beds and mattresses," Deputy Mayor Tonis Molder told BNS on Tuesday.

According to Molder, the city will definitely not leave anyone in need outside. Due to the present cold weather homeless shelters are also open during daytime and homeless people are fed soup and bread every day.

Molder called on everybody who notices someone in need to help them and to call the emergency number 112, if necessary.

The weather service forecasts temperatures to drop as low as minus 29 degrees Celsius in the early hours of Wednesday.
