RIGA - Although the talks between the US, Russian and Ukrainian delegations have so far failed to produce results due to Russia's rejectionist attitude, they have provided a turning point, political analyst Karlis Dauksts told LETA.

He said that the second round of talks have ended virtually without result, but that there were also new turning points.

The expert said that these diplomatic talks have been reinforced by the presence of military figures, such as Kyrylo Budanov, the head of the Ukrainian president's office. He has a lot of influence in the intelligence services in Ukraine and is very well regarded in the US. He is an equal, very strong negotiator, the expert stressed.

He also mentioned that a potential achievement of the talks is that they move from setting out the major issues to discussing technical solutions on the battlefield, which is the task of military specialists. Thus, the presence of military specialists in the diplomatic talks brings a structure of concreteness, the expert added.
