RIGA - Over 80,000 clients of Lattelecom electronic services provider experienced problems accessing the Web on Saturday because of a system error, Lattelecom spokeswoman Lasma Trofimova told LETA today.

The company’s representative confirmed that the Internet shut off for more than 80,000 subscribers or less than half of Lattelecom clients across Latvia yesterday.

The problem affected those who use the Internet service provided by Lattelecom, as well as a part of clients using the Internet-based interactive television. Network overload caused problems also to the company’s call center and website as a high number of people wee trying to contact Lattelecom about the shutdown.

Trofimova said that Lattelecom managed to renew its service shortly after midnight. The company asks those clients that still have problems accessing the Internet to call Lattelecom’s helpline 177.

The cause of the system error is still being investigated.

Lattelecom, established in 1992, is a provider of integrated electronic communication, television, Internet and IT services in Latvia.
