VILNIUS – The cheapest basket of consumer goods in Lithuania can be found in the German-capital retail chain Lidl, a mystery shopping survey found.

SeeNext mystery shopping agency compared commodity prices in five retail chains, including Maxima, Lidl, Rimi, Iki and Norfa, in five cities in Lithuania: Vilnius, Kaunas, Klaipeda, Panevezys and Siauliai.

The survey checked prices of the frequent consumer basket, which ranged in price between 45.85 euros and 56.01 euros. The cheapest basket was found in Lidl (EUR 45.87), followed by Maxima (EUR 47.04), Norfa (EUR 49.79), Rimi (EUR 55.44) and Iki (EUR 55.61).

Even in the same retail chain, prices for the same goods differ from cities to cities, with the smallest differences reported in Lidl and the biggest in Iki.

The mystery shopping survey was conducted on Dec. 5. The SeeNext agency has more than 850 mystery shoppers.
