RIGA - If the epidemiological situation in Latvia does not get worse, students will return to schools in September, as the Education and Science Ministry's Parliamentary Secretary Reinis Znotins (New Conservative Party) told Saeima Education, Culture and Science Committee today.
If the epidemiological situation changes significantly, the ministry "will promptly decide what to do next", said Znotins. In that case, remote learning will continue. The Education and Science Ministry will be working all summer to digitize curricula, he added.
The Health Ministry's rules on epidemiological safety measures to stem the spread of Covid-19 stipulate that remote learning will continue until July 31, 2020.
However, preschool children are allowed to go to school, examinations take place at schools, and students are allowed to attend consultations. Likewise, vocational school students are allowed to go to school, provided that all the relevant safety measures are observed.
The Health Ministry previously said that the restrictions could be gradually eased or lifted altogether after June, based on the epidemiological situation in Latvia and abroad.
