VILNIUS - Shipping at the port of Klaipeda was restricted on Friday morning due to strong winds, but no vessels are currently waiting to enter or leave the port, port authority representative Radvile Rumsiene said.

Shipping at the port has been restricted since 8 a.m. due to strong westerly winds reaching about 18 metres per second, with gusts of up to 20.8 metres per second, Rumsiene said.

Sea waves were reaching heights of 4 to 6.9 metres, she said.

Strong winds left about 2,500 customers without electricity in the Klaipeda and Kaunas districts in the morning. The Fire and Rescue Department said the wind was toppling trees along the coast, with one falling on three cars in Klaipeda.
