Strike confirms she is venturing into politics, will run for Riga mayor

RIGA - Juta Strike, the Corruption Prevention Bureau’s former deputy head, has joined the New Conservative Party, led by former justice minister Janis Bordans, and will run in upcoming local elections for the mayoral office in Riga.

Speaking at a news conference today, Strike said that she arrived at this decision after lengthy reflection.

The would-be politician announced her decision to run for Riga mayor in the 2017 local elections. Bordans said he would also run in the election as one of the party’s candidates for Riga mayor.

Juris Jurass, the former head of the Corruption Prevention Bureau’s Intelligence Process Division, has also joined the New Conservative Party and will run in the local elections in Riga.

Jurass also voiced an intention to urge other former employees of the Corruption Prevention Bureau to follow in his footsteps and join the Bordans-led party.
