Strengthening of Latvia's external border with innovative solutions will cost EUR 15.5 million

RIGA - Introduction of innovative technological solutions on Latvian external border will cost EUR 15.5 million, according to the Cabinet of Ministers regulations approved today.

The Transport Ministry said that the draft regulations have been developed in order to improve control of Latvia's external border and introduce innovative technological solutions, allowing to react to such contemporary threats as hybrid warfare, organized crime, for example, contraband, illegal migration and other threats.

The applied costs of the project amount to EUR 15,550,397, including EUR 13,217,837 from the European Regional Development Fund and EUR 2,332,560 private funding.

The project should be completed by Decenber 31, 2023, introducing the technological solution in a stretch of at least 65 kilometers.
