Speaker Murniece to attend European conference of parliament speakers in Athens

RIGA - Saeima Speaker Inara Murniece (National Alliance) will attend the European Conference of Presidents of Parliament, which is taking place from today till October 23 in the Greek capital Athens, LETA was told at the parliamentary press office. 

The European Conference of Presidents of Parliament is expected to focus on democratic countries' fight against the the Covid-19 public health crisis, the right to a healthy and sustainable environment and the common future of all European citizens.

Murniece's agenda also includes several meetings in Athens, including with Moldova's parliament Speaker Igor Grosu and Georgian parliament Speaker Kakhber Kuchava.

The conference takes place every other year, in Strasbourg or in a host country. It gathers parliament speakers from the Council of Europe member states, the states enjoying observer or partner for democracy status with the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe;

and of international parliamentary assemblies. The parliaments of central Asian and Maghreb countries also take part.
