RIGA -  Social dialogue between employees and employers must be mutually balanced, respecting the rights and interests of both parties, thus ensuring social stability in the country, President Edgars Rinkevics believes.

Justine Deicmane, head of the president's press office, informed LETA that the president met with Egils Baldzns, chairman of the Free Trade Union Confederation of Latvia (LBAS), at Riga Castle on Monday.

The president and the union leader discussed LBAS' priorities, including current issues of trade unions in various sectors. Rinkevics and Baldzens also discussed productivity, collective bargaining and various issues related to tax regimes in the context of the Baltic states and the European Union (EU).

The president confirmed his readiness to maintain a regular dialogue with LBAS and sectoral trade unions.
