RIGA - The controversial amendments to the Education Law come into force today that, among other things, will allow sacking teachers for disloyalty to the Latvian state. Saeima passed the so-called teacher loyalty amendments to the Education Law in the final reading at the end of November. 56 MPs voted for the amendments, 35 were against. The legislation amends Section 51 of the Education Law, which deals with teachers' general obligations.
