Six more Covid-19 cases confirmed in Latvia during last 24 hours

RIGA - Six more people have tested positive for the new coronavirus Covid-19 during the past 24 hours, the Center for Disease Prevention and Control said.

Of these, one got infected from his relative in Latvia.

As a result, a total of 16 Covid-19 cases have been confirmed in Latvia so far.

According to the Disease Prevention and Control Center's data, two of the last six coronavirus patients had been to Spain, the rest had visited Italy, Austria and Switzerland.

At the moment, one patient is treated in hospital. This person got infected by a relative who had returned from Switzerland.

In Latvia, free Covid-19 tests are carried out for persons who have returned from countries affected by the coronavirus and who display symptoms of the virus.

According to the Disease Prevention and Control Center, 41 laboratory tests have been carried out in Latvia during the last 24 hours for Covid-19, and a total of 332 tests so far.

Meanwhile, the total number of Covid-19 cases in the world has reached 118,000 in 114 countries, and 4,291 people have died from the disease, according to the World Health Organization's data.

WHO Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said on March 11 that the outbreak of the new coronavirus had reached the level of a global pandemic.
