RIGA - Riga Vidzeme District Court on September 8 handed down prison sentences to six men for counterfeiting USD 100 bills in the amount of USD 3.5 million, LETA learned at the court.
The six men include Aleksandrs Fomicevs, Viktors Zdanovics, Normunds Juska, Ilmars Krievins, Maris Popovs and Sergejs Jakovlevs.
Fomicevs has been sentenced to six year in prison, Zdanovics - five years, Juska and Jakovlevs - four years, and Krievins and Popovs - three years.
All six will also be put on one-year probation after serving their sentences.
According to materials in the case, the six were working as a group to make and distribute counterfeit USD 100 bills. The group had a printing facility in Riga. Part of the counterfeit bills were stored at the facility and the other part at the residences of the accused.
The State Police confiscated a total of 35,745 counterfeit USD 100 bills from the group.
