President-elect of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen on September 10 proposed Lithuania's Economy Minister Virginijus Sinkevičius for European commissioner in charge of environment. Sinkevicius received the European Parliament's approval in late September and the new EC is scheduled to start working on November 1.
