RIGA - On Thursday, opposition MPs started collecting signatures for calling a vote of no confidence in Transport Minister Talis Linkaits (Conservatives), MP Ramona Petravica (Latvia First) told LETA.
The motion of no confidence in the minister was signed by Petravica and several members of the Union of Greens and Farmers (Greens/Farmers), the politician said. She allowed the possibility that other parliamentarians could also sign the petition.
The Greens/Farmers earlier this week called for Linkaits to resign.
Greens/Farmers MPs believe that the minister has not been able to ensure the provision of efficient public transport services that meet the needs of the population in regional route networks. MP Viktors Valainis that information is being received from a number of municipalities about the residents' dissatisfaction with the availability of public transport.
Linkaits' resignation has also been requested by the Vidzeme Planning Region, the Latvian Public Services and Transport Workers' Union and the Latvian Passenger Transport Association.
