Seven persons die from flu-related symptoms last week

RIGA - Seven persons died from flu-related symptoms in Latvia last week, the Center for Disease Prevention and Control informs.

This takes the death toll this flu season to 30 - 13 women and 17 men.

The center informs that three of those who died last week were vaccinated.

However, flu intensity in Latvia did reduce by 31.8 percent last week.

Meanwhile, 191 flu patients were admitted to hospitals and another 28 people were hospitalized with flu-induced pneumonia last week. The number of flu-related hospitalizations has reached 1,917 this season.

Epidemiologists remind that senior residents and people suffering from chronic diseases - cardiac and cardiovascular diseases, pulmonary and renal diseases, diabetes, chronic infections, etc. - suffer the most severe complications caused by the disease. Fatality, rate is the highest for people over 65 years old.

The disease is transmitted through air or by touching objects that have been in contact with an infected person. Sharing one room with an infected person poses the highest threat of getting infected with the virus.
