VILNIUS – Lietuvos Oro Uostai (Lithuanian Airports, LOU), the state-owned airport operator in Lithuania, plans to buy self-service baggage drop-off equipment, the first in the country, to be used at Vilnius Airport's new terminal.

The company has launched consultations with market participants on the planned acquisition of such equipment, Marius Zelenius, head of communication at LOU, told BNS.

The airport operator wants to start using 10 self-service baggage drop-off stations at Vilnius Airport's new terminal scheduled to be completed by the middle of 2024.

It would be a one-step system that would allow travelers to scan their travel document, weight their baggage, print out the tag and drop off their baggage. The system capacity should be at least 2 million items of registered baggage a year.

LOU operates Vilnius, Kaunas and Palanga Airports. The three airports recorded 1.8 million passengers and 30,000 flights in 2020.
