RIGA - Security services will have the right to shoot down drones that may pose threat to critical infrastructure facilities, the Economics Ministry informed LETA.
If a remotely-controlled unmanned vehicle is detected in the vicinity of a critical infrastructure facility, which may pose threat to the facility's security, an employee of the facility's security service or security company will have the right to shoot the drone down.
Saeima approved the Economics Ministry's initiative on Thursday, December 18.
Category A, B and C critical infrastructure facilities include ports, airports, power supply facilities, military and other facilities.
The Economics Ministry's Parliamentary Secretary Jurgis Miezainis points out that in the event of a threat to critical infrastructure, it is necessary for security services to act immediately, using all available resources.
