The Security Service advises people to avoid reacting to provocative activities on March 16 and to report them to law enforcement authorities. Those who have information about possible unlawful activities being planned for March 16 are asked to report it to the Security Service either by calling the phone number 67 208 964 or writing to the email [email protected]

Eyewitnesses of such illegal activities on March 16 are asked to immediately report them by calling the State Police number 112.

The local government of Riga City has so far received an application about a planned flower-laying event by the Freedom Monument on March 16, the day for remembering the Latvian legionnaires fallen in World War II. The event is being planned by the patriotic organization Daugavas Vanagi Latvija (Hawks of the Daugava in Latvia).

March 16 Latvian Legion Day is an unofficial remembrance day of Latvian Legionnaires. Latvian Legion Day was established in exile by the Daugavas Vanagi association. March 16 was chosen as the most appropriate date because on March 16, 1944, both divisions of the Latvian Legion fought alongside for the first time against the Red Army. It was the only battle in World War II led solely by Latvian commanders.
