Security Police detain pro-Russian activist Gaponenko

RIGA - The Security Police on May 26 detained the pro-Russian activist and the head of the Non-Citizen’s Congress Aleksandrs Gaponenko. Gaponenko’s attorney said that he was detained on his way to the airport, where he was supposed to travel to Moscow to promote one of his documentaries about Russian schools in Latvia. “I was released after 16 hours of searches and interrogations,” Gaponenko informed The Baltic Times. “Now I am free.” Gaponenko was also detained by the Estonian Security Police earlier this year.
