Salaries of police officers, firefighters, border guards and prison staff to be raised by 10% from 2023

RIGA - The government on Tuesday approved the Interior Ministry's proposal to raise the salaries of police officers, firefighters, border guards and prison staff by 10 percent and to increase a special additional payment for firefighters by from January 1, 2023.

According to the government's decision, as of January 1, 2023 monthly pay will be increased for officers of the State Police, State Border Guard, State Fire and Rescue Service and the Internal Security Bureau, staff and students of the aforementioned services' colleges, as well as officers of the Prison Administration, which is subordinated to the Justice Ministry. 

At present, EUR 24 million have been earmarked for this purpose for 2023 and following years under the agreement reached by the government. The ministry's priority is to secure additional EUR 4.7 million for raising salaries of the employees working in institutions subordinated to the Interior Ministry.
