Salacgriva port raises cargo turnover 32.1% in 2018

RIGA - The port of Salacgriga reloaded 348,200 tons of cargo in 2018, which was 32.1 percent more than a year before, LETA was told at the port.

Pulpwood dominated the cargos reloaded in Salacgriva last year as handling of pulpwood in the port doubled from 2017 to 183,500 tons last year, accounting for 52.7 percent of all cargos.

Woodchip cargos followed with 47,300 tons, down 37.9 percent from 2017, and handling of peat increased 24.5 percent to 46,000 tons. Claydite cargos were down 5.3 percent to 37,800 tons in Salacgriva last year.

In 2018, the port of Salacgriva handled 120 ships, or 29 ships more than in 2017.

In 2017, cargo turnover in Salacgriva declined 9.5 percent year-on-year to 263,600 tons.

There are three large and seven small ports in Latvia. In 2017, Salacgriva ranked third among the small ports by cargo turnover.
