RIGA - The Saeima Presidium has called an extraordinary parliament sitting this Thursday, LETA was told at the Saeima press office.

At the meeting, lawmakers are expected to decide on the ratification of NATO accession protocols for Finland and Sweden.

Earlier Saeima Speaker Inara Murniece (National Alliance) told LETA that the Saeima might complete the ratification of the protocols in the final reading already on Thursday, July 14.

In all, there are 33 points on the Saeima meeting's agenda, including amendments to several energy related laws.

As reported, Finland and Sweden at NATO's Summit in Madrid last week signed protocols to join the Alliance.

For a long time Finland and Sweden had been reserved about joining NATO, but the war unleashed by Russia in Ukraine has prompted the two countries to apply to join the alliance.
