Saeima Speaker Murniece to make an official visit to Sweden

RIGA - Saeima Speaker Inara Murniece (National Alliance) is embarking on an official three-day visit to Sweden today, LETA was told at the Saeima press office.

During her visit, Murniece is scheduled to meet with Andreas Norlen, Speaker of Sweden’s parliament, the Riksdag, Vice-Speaker Asa Lindestam and members of the Riksdag Foreign, Defense and European Affairs Committee. Murniece’s talks with the Swedish lawmakers are expected to focus in bilateral cooperation, prospects for future cooperation in the Baltic and Nordic region, as well as current security and EU matters.

In Stockholm, the Latvian parliament speaker plans to meet with Swedish Prime Minister Kjell Stefan Lofven, Foreign Minister Margot Wallstrom and Defense Minister Peter Hultqvist.

Murniece will also visit the Stockholm City Council to meet with its President Cecilia Brinck.

The Saeima speaker also plans to meet with Sweden’s Latvian community.

At the end of her visit, the Saeima speaker is scheduled to meet with King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden.
