RIGA - The success of the Latvian athletes at the Paralympic Games in Paris is not only something to be proud of, but also an inspiration for everyone to reach new heights, said Saeima Speaker Daiga Mierina (Greens/Farmers) when addressing the athletes who won medals at the Paralympic Games in Paris on Thursday.
The press service of the Saeima informed LETA that today a special presentation took place at Saeima of stamps and envelopes dedicated to Latvia's paralympic athletes.
"Each of you is a story of courage, patience and strength. You prove that despite everything, a person can overcome both physical and emotional challenges," said the Speaker of the Saeima, stressing that these athletes prove that there are no limits that cannot be overcome if one has faith in oneself, one's dreams and the willingness to work hard.
Mierina noted that this series of stamps has not only a practical but also a symbolic function, becoming an ambassador of our achievements in Latvia and the world. "Let this event serve as a tribute. Latvia believes in and supports its people. I wish you not to stop at what you have achieved," said the Speaker of the Saeima.
MP Davis Martins Daugavietis (New Unity), Chairman of the Subcommittee on Sport of the Education, Culture and Science Committee of the Saeima, thanked the Paralympians for their hard work in the moments when the cameras were turned off and the training process was underway, as well as for the emotions felt by fans in front of their TV screens during the Paralympic Games. The Chairman of the Subcommittee on Sport also stressed the importance of the work done by the athletes' support staff.
Athletes Aigars Apinis, Diana Krumina and Rihards Snikus, as well as their coaches, physiotherapists and support persons, were honored at the event. At this year's Paralympic Games in Paris, Aigars Apinis won a silver medal in the discus, Diana Krumina won a gold medal in the javelin and Rihards Snikus won two gold medals in equestrian events.
