Saeima speaker calls on China to promote ending Russia's war in Ukraine

RIGA - China should more actively engage in promoting end of Russia's war in Ukraine, said Saeima speaker Edvards Smiltens (United List) during his meeting with Chinese Ambassador to Latvia Liang Jianquan.

"Along with Russia's attack on Ukraine, there is an iron curtain between Russia and the civilized world. China is a strategically important player who might use its impact in implementation of the basic principles of the UN Charter," Smiltens told the ambassador.

Saeima press service reported that both parties discussed the role of the UN Security Council in ensuring international peace, and discussed the role of lawmkaers in strengthening bilateral relations. The ambassador voiced hoped for closer cooperation between parliaments of both countries.

Smiltens thanked the Chinese ambassador for his contribution strengthening the relations between Latvia and China.
