RIGA - China must put pressure on Russia more actively to make it end the war in Ukraine, Saeima Secretary Armands Krauze (Greens/Farmers) said during a meeting with Chinese Ambassador to Latvia Liang Jianquan.
"Latvia firmly supports Ukraine's territorial integrity. To us, the devastating war Russia has launched in Ukraine is very personal, because we have lived under the Soviet occupation for many years," Krauze said.
The Saeima secretary noted that Latvia and China have several common interests. While discussing Latvian-Chinese parliamentary cooperation, a special emphasis was on the parliamentary friendship groups' role in strengthening dialogue between the two countroes.
LETA was told at the Saeima press office that the meeting between Krauze and the Chinese ambassador also touched on strengthening economic cooperation, with the ambassador asserting China's interest in promoting balanced economy and more active Latvian exports to China. The meeting also dealt with prospects for promoting experience sharing between businesses and also person-to-person contacts.
