Saeima passes 65 bills in winter session; Gobzems was most active in debates

RIGA - Saeima passed 65 bills during its last winter session, with MP Aldis Gobzmes emerging as the most active participant of parliamentary debates, LETA was told at the Saeima press office.

During the winter session, Saeima passed ten new laws and amendments to 55 laws in the final reading. The parliamentarians convened for 14 regular and three extraordinary sittings.

Of the 91 bills tabled in Saeima during the winter session, 67 were submitted by the Cabinet of Ministers, ten by lawmakers, 13 by Saeima committees and one by President Raimonds Vejonis.

While working on the submitted bills, voting on them in the second and third reading, Saeima assessed 1,185 legislative proposals in total.

Independent MP Gobzems was the most active participant of parliamentary debates, taking the floor 48 times during the winter session. He was followed by Julija Stepanenko (47), Viktors Valainis (Greens/Farmers, 31), Ivars Zarins (Harmony, 25), Dana Reizniece-Ozola (Greens/Farmers, 18) and Didzis Smits (KPV LV, 18).

Saeima closed the winter session on April 15 and its due to start the spring session on April 23.

During the breaks between regular sessions Saeima can convene for extraordinary meetings.
