RIGA - Saeima could ratify the protocols for Sweden and Finland to join NATO next week, Saeima Speaker Inara Murniece (National Alliance) told LETA.

However, Murniece said that first the necessary documents from the Foreign Ministry must be received. She said that the Saeima Presidium hopes to receive these documents at the beginning of next week.

As reported, observing the procedures established in Latvia, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) will forward the necessary documents so that the Saeima can ratify the protocols for Finland and Sweden to join NATO as soon as possible, Latvian Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkevics wrote on his Twitter account today.

He pointed out that on Tuesday in Brussels, during the meeting of the North Atlantic Council, Finland and Sweden signed protocols on joining NATO.
