RIGA – The Saeima social and labor affairs committee lawmakers agreed to call on the Health Ministry to assess operations of the board of Pauls Stradins Clinical University Hospital (Stradins Hospital) in Riga, the committee chairman Andris Skride (For Development) who himself is working in the hospital, told the press today.

In his words, the decision is related with organization of the hospital work as patients who need urgent medical assistance are forced to wait in the line for planned surgeries.

Skride said that it is not his competence to tell that the board or its chairwoman Ilze Kreicberga should be sacked, but the operations of the board should be assessed and the decision made by the responsible ministry.

Kreicberga told the press that she disagrees with the criticism. She said that the board arrived to the Saeima committee meeting unprepared because it was not aware of the issues on the committee’s agenda.

Kreicberga believes that the board is working well and the Health Ministry has not voiced any reproaches.
